Something had to give this afternoon at Ballinamullen when Killyclogher hosted Ardboe in round seven of the All County League. Both teams had made great starts to their seasons with six wins from six outings so today was going to see the end to at least one of those perfect records.
Killyclogher began well and were 0-6 to no score in front fifteen minutes into the opening half with Leo Meenan [3], Mark Bradley, Marty Swift and Niall Mc Fadden all contributing points. Early in the game the home side was dominating play and causing problems for Ardboe with their combative style and hard work.
However with Martin Mc Keown and Ronan Campbell slowly gaining control in the middle of the park Ardboe got on top. They hit four points in a row through Nissi O’Neill [2], Ronan Campbell and Tommy Mc Guigan to reach the break trailing by two.
The second half was nip and tuck throughout with Killyclogher just managing to keep their noses in front through hard work and endeavour. Leo Meenan missed with a couple of frees but got the vital score that put his side two in front with time almost up. Brian Mc Guigan had to leave the field injured while big John Mc Conville came on too late to make a significant difference in the game. Leo Meenan [0-6] top scored for the winners while Mick Hagan and Nissi O’Neill were the main threats for the Rossas. Final score : Killyclogher 0-12, Ardboe 0-11.
