The double bill at Dunmoyle on Saturday evening certainly lived up to expectations with Eskra and Pomeroy recording wins over Aghaloo and Killyclogher respectively.

Aghaloo were the better side early on in the Intermediate encounter with Stephen Donnelly and Jody McGlone among the points as they established a five point lead. Eskra though gradually came into the game and scores from Peter Hughes, Joe McCarroll and Aaron Kelly saw them close the gap to 0-8 to 0-6 at the short whistle.

McGlone and Niall McElroy had early points for Aghaloo on the restart before a well taken goal from Donnelly left them 1-10 to 0-6 in front. They were to score just one more point though in the remaining twenty five minutes as Eskra outscored them 2-8 to 0-1. Hughes, McCarroll and Conor O’Hagan all had points while Kelly and Jonathan Hackett got goals as it finished 2-14 to 1-11.

The senior championship encounter afterwards brought together last season’s senior and Intermediate championship winners and it was the Plunketts who prevailed to upset the odds and secure a fully merited win to send the holders crashing out.

From the start it was obvious that Pomeroy were up for the game as they tackled as though their lives depended on it and gave Killyclogher precious little room to work with. John Loughran hit a superb goal for the winners with half back Aidan Woods hitting an outstanding brace of points. Mark Bradley and Simon O’Neill responded for a Killyclogher side who lost Gary Wallace to a second yellow card but who only trailed by the minimum at the break.

O’Neill and James Carlin pointed to put the holders in front by the 43rd minute but they were to score just once more.  Loughran hit a brilliant brace either side of one from the superb Kieran McGeary as the Plunketts turned things around. Frank Burns hit the last three points of the game as Pomeroy triumphed on a 1-9 to 0-7 scoreline. Killyclogher finished with thirteen men after Nathan Donnelly was black carded late on having earlier picked up a yellow one.
