In a weekend of shocks in the Intermediate championship the latest one took place at O’Neill Park on Sunday evening as Derrylaughan edged past Moy 2-12 to 0-15 despite playing most of the game with only fourteen men.

It was a result that once again highlighted the competitiveness of the Intermediate championship as all three sides who were relegated out of senior football last season exited within twenty four hours of each other.  Moy led 0-3 to 0-1 early on thanks to points from Harry Loughran and Sean Cavanagh but Tomas Carney and Ciaran Quinn brought the Kevin Barrys level.  In the 19th minute Paul Donnelly finished in style low to the corner of the Moy net but Moy hit back with points from Loughran and Peter Mallon.  Derrylaughan lost Declan Brady to a straight red card but they managed to greet the short whistle 1-7 to 0-8 in front after Liam Gervin and Mallon had exchanged points.

Mark Robinson and Loughran swapped points on the resumption before a Carney free kept Derrylaughan in front. In the 39th minute a ball broke in the Moy area and Ciaran Quinn first timed it to the net.  Derrylaughan now led by five and Moy had it all to do. Mallon blazed a goal chance over the bar before Carney replied at the other end of the field. Mallon and Cavanagh closed the gap further but Ciaran Gervin hit back with an outstanding point. Cavanagh was wide with a goal chance while James Kennedy denied Loughran on a day when Moy had fifteen wides to their opponents four.
