Eire Og Carrickmore  3-17

Carryduff   1-10

Carrickmore Eire Og are back in the big time after a very good semi-final win over Carryduff in the Ulster club intermediate hurling championship. It’s been five years since the Eire Ogs last contested the final. That proved to be a narrow loss to St John’s of Antrim at Casement Park. Geoffrey McGonigle’s side will now face Creggan later this month in the decider.

Ryan McKernan’s first half goal helped the Tyrone side to a 1-12 to 0-6 lead at the break but as expected the Down men stepped up their efforts after the break. They pressed Carmen for a ten minutes spell but just when they looked like storming back they lost Eoin Conway to a second yellow card while Peadar Daly and substitute Gary Fox found the net to ease the Eire Og’s home with plenty to spare.

Justin Kelly, Ryan McKernan, Peader Daly 0-2 and a brace from Conor Grogan put Carrickmore in control before Carryduff’s top marksman Ronan Beatty managed to latch on a score. Playing all over the front line Beatty added all but one of his team’s first half tally with Conor Beatty landing a fine score from long range before McKernan’s goal just prior to the break. Aidy Kelly was once again in superb form and ended the day with 0-6.

The Down champions worked hard to create openings latching on a couple of points and a Ronan Beatty goal. Eire Og keeper McElhatton and his defence were in fine form while Kelly, Johnny Munroe and Justin Kelly kept the scoreboard ticking over. Carryduff battled hard to get back into the game but the loss of Eoin Conway followed quickly by Daly’s three pointer and Fox’s major meant there was only going to be one winner.

Entertaining fayre from the Eire Ogs once again as they push on, they could have scored more but always looked a threat, still room for improvement and Geoffrey McGonigle knows they will need that as they face the Antrim side.

SCORERS

Carryduff: Ronan Beatty 1-5, Gareth Lynch 0-2, Conor Beatty 0-1, Michael Conway 0-1, Eoin Conway 0-1,

Eire Ogs: Aidy Kelly 0-6, Peader Daly 1-2, Ryan McKernan 1-1, Justin Kelly 0-4, Conor Grogan 0-3 Gary Fox 1-0, Johnny Munroe 0-1.
