A large crowd turned out on Saturday evening in Coalisland for the final two quarter finals of the Donnelly sponsored Intermediate Championship.

Up first was the clash of near neighbours Derrytresk and Edendork. This game was tense, competitive and close throughout with Edendork’s greater experience and ability to make the most of their goal chances the key differences. The winners had to do without the services of top players Niall Morgan and Harry Og Conlon following recent injuries and their absence certainly tested the depth and hunger of the Edendork squad.

However when they were needed most up stepped forward duo Darren Mc Curry and veteran Brian Mc Guckin. Mc Curry was closely monitored throughout but still found the net after nine minutes to put his side1-1 to 0-1 in front before his strike partner bagged the first of two goals following a fine conversion with less than ten minutes of the opening half remaining.

Derrytresk however refused to bow the knee and battled their way back into the game courtesy of a brace of Joe Mc Kee wonder points. Things got even better for the Hill Men when Ronan O’Neill fisted the ball to the net to send his side in leading 1-5 to 2-1 at the break.

The second half was every bit as keenly contested with time, space and scoring opportunities difficult to come by. Early points from Aidan and Niall Gavin extended the Derrytresk lead before a fine point when under pressure from Mc Curry and a super goal from Mc Guckin had Edendork in front again.

With less than ten minutes of the game remaining a Conor Gavin point levelled the game for the second and last time. Unfortunately for Derrytresk that was as good as it got. From there until the end Edendork added four points without reply to make it through to a place in the semi final on a final score of Edendork 3-6, Derrytresk 1-8.
