Brockagh Emmetts are this evening celebrating an U16 Grade 4 Championship title following a three point win over Derrytresk in Derrylaughan. The Emmetts got off to a perfect start when a Simon Gervin shot was deflected to the net in the 5th minute. Points from Conan McDonald and Shea Ryan had them 1-3 to 0-0 up inside the first 17 minutes. But for a series of poor shot selections Brockagh might well have been further ahead. Derrytresk playing into a stiff breeze didn’t open their account until the 25th minute when Harry Lambert fired over a 20 metre free however Brockagh finished the half the strongest and added three more scores from Seam McGory and Niall Russell. Half time score Brockagh 1-6 Derrytresk 0-1.
Despite having wind advantage in the second period Derrytresk failed to make inroads into the Brockagh lead and it wasn’t until Harry Lambert punched the ball to the net following an error from the goalkeeper in the 43rd minute that Derrytresk started to get into the match. Further points from Reece Clucus, Cathal McCaffrey and Harry Lambert closed the gap to four point going into the last five minutes. Derrytresk pushed hard for the goal that they needed in the closing stages but the best they could manage was an Ultan McKee point two minutes into injury time. That said Brockagh will have Brandon McKeever to thank for an excellent goal line clearance five minutes from time. Final Score – Brockagh 1-8 Derrytresk 1-5
