Dromore are the 2014 Tyrone Ladies Junior Football Champions following victory over Cookstown in Greencastle last night. The St Dympna’s girls got off to the perfect start and were 1-1 to no score up inside the first three minutes, with the second minute goal coming from the boot of Orla O’Neill. Cookstown eventually recorded their first score in the 11th minute when Margaret Conway slotted a free but Dromore raced ahead once again with Orla O’Neill firing home her second goal. Two further points from Eamma Smyth had Dromore eight points up by the 13th minute and the result at this stage looked in no doubt. Cookstown didn’t throw in the towel though and thanks to two excellent goals from the impressive Aoibhinn Devlin and county player Laura McGillion the Fr Rock’s were back to within a single point by the 18th minute. Emma Smyth and Margaret Conway exchanged points from there to the break as Dromore went in 2-6 to 2-5 ahead.

The second half didn’t have as many scores but that didn’t take away from the effort of both sides. This time Cookstown got the start they wanted when Aoibhinn Devlin found the net for the town in the 32nd minute. That score was cancelled out by an absolute stunner of a shot from Orla O’Neill who raced across the Fr Rocks defence and thumped the ball into the top left hand corner. Further points from Grainne McRory and Joanne Donnelly eased Dromore three ahead. Dromore finished strongly with another score from Smyth and a late goal from the industrious Shauna McNabb sealed the Dromore win. Final score Dromore 4-9 Cookstown 3-5
