Strabane Sigersons hosted their annual Danny Rouse Memorial Tournament for Minor teams last Friday and once again it proved to be a huge success. Owen Roes and Newtownstewart entered teams while the host club provided an A and a B side.
The standard of football throughout was exceptional with Strabane A and Newtownstewart facing off in the final. These sides had played out an entertaining draw earlier in the competition but this time around Newtownstewart ran out deserving winners.
Following the final and the medal presentations Strabane Sigersons Youth Officer Jason Foley thanked the referees Eunan Harkin, Mairtin Casey and Ambrose Mc Aleer for their contribution to a successful evening’s football. He also paid tribute to Melmont East Bank Estates Community Associations Forum for their kind sponsorship of the event in partnership with Sport Relief and the Community Foundation for NI.
Danny Rouse’s widow Eileen then presented the winning captain Aidan Mc Sorley and both teams with their trophies. Eileen was presented with a bouquet of flowers as a mark of appreciation from the club. The evening concluded with a barbecue at the Ballycolman venue which was enjoyed by players, mentors and spectators alike.
