McCurry Black Card Rescinded

Tyrone forward Darren McCurry has had the black card he received in the Monaghan game rescinded following a meeting with the Central Hearings Committee on Wednesday night.  McCurry was dismissed towards the end of the Ulster quarter final clash with the Ulster champions.  Laois referee Eddie Kinsella issued a black card to McCurry following an incident in the 59th minute.  Monaghan player Darren Hughes was also dismissed a short time later for a challenge on Tyrone captain Sean Cavanagh.

Tyrone are believed to have used video evidence to suggest that McCurry’s trip was accidental.    The clip did show that he lifted his elbow after falling to the ground.  It appears that the CHC have accepted McCurry’s claim that Darren Hughes ran over his elbow without the knowledge of player.  So far the issuing of most of the black cards has been very robust for the GAA with just the five hearings sought for well over 100 black cards issued this year.

It’s believed that two Monaghan players, Darren Hughes and Conor McManus also appeared before the CHC on Wednesday night.  It’s understood that the CHC also took the decision to rescind both of their black cards.  A player accumulating three black cards in a given season receives a one match ban.
