Tyrone and Antrim locked horns in u14 and Minor codes on Saturday at Augher. On a disappointing day for the young Red Hands it was the Antrim Cailini that went home with the wins.
In the u14 game Antrim played with the wind advantage and scored 1-02 in the first ten minutes. They could have been further ahead but for excellent point blank saves from C Mc Grath.
Superb work by A Daly and L Martin helped keep Tyrone in the game.Antrim were well on top but several positional switches saw Tyrone go one to one and Antrim’s grip on the game slackened.
M Martin made a run from deep in her own defence linking up with R Monaghan who put C Monroe through to fire over Tyrone’s first score after 20 minutes. This seemed to give the girls renewed confidence with L Canning and Monroe being denied by excellent saves by the Antrim goal keeper.
L Conroy was replaced by O Devlin who helped to steady the home defence before Antirm finished the half with another point from a free. Half Time :Tyrone 0-01 Antrim 1-03
E Conroy replaced M Mc Crystal as the 2nd half started but Antrim seemed quicker to the ball with further goal being scored soon after the restart. Antrim then fired over 2 points before Tyrone rallied. L Martin switched from full back to midfield. This helped Tyrone to get a grip around the centre and her runs allowed AJ O Neill E Conroy to score a point a piece.
E Rushe then fired over a superb individual effort having received the ball on the 65 from E Mc Canny.Tyrone continued to apply pressure but were denied futher scores before a point from a free extended Antrim’s lead.
E Rushe then hit 2 goals without reply as Tyrone pressed the Antrim defence for further scores. A breakaway attack give Antrim another point from play as match Referree R O Donnell from Donegal blew the whistle for full-time with the score Tyrone 2-04 Antrim 2-07.
