Aghyaran defeated Stewartstown in the Division Two league play off after a hard fought win at home on Saturday afternoon on a final score of 1-13 to 2-8.
Ronan Mc Hugh once again led the line for the winners with 1-4 in the first half to help his side reach the break leading 1-9 to 2-5. Benny Gallen, Bernard Moss, Malachy Martin, Sean Byrne and Ronan Mc Namee were all on target in a close and competitive opening thirty minutes. Stewartstown more than held their own during the opening thirty minutes with goals from Cathal Devlin and Gerard O’Neill as well as fine points from Greg Kelly and Gareth Devlin.
The second half saw both defences on top and scores proved even harder to come by. Sean Byrne (2) and Ronan Mc Namee (2) provided Aghyaran’s four second half points while Stewartstown only managed three scores over the course of the half hour. Gareth Devlin, Greg Kelly and Gerard O’Neill struck for their points while O’Neill was off target with a 58th minute penalty which sailed wide with his team trailing by two.
Final score; Aghyaran 1-13, Stewartstown 2-8.
