Derrylaughan produced an amazing fifteen point turnaround at Plunkett Park on Saturday afternoon to overcome Aghyaran in the Intermediate championship semi final and stay on course for a possible double.

Ciaran Quinn and Ronan McNamee swapped early points before Malachy Martin palmed in a 4th minute goal for the St.Davogs. Five minutes later Aghyaran struck for another goal when a sweeping move saw Ronan McHugh finish in style low to the bottom right hand corner of the net. Benny Gallen, Cathal Browne and McHugh all added points to leave Aghyaran leading  2-4 to 0-1 at the end of the opening quarter. Tomas Carney and Brian Kennedy had Derrylaughan points with McHugh replying for Aghyaran before the Loughshore men were thrown a lifeline when Fergal McAliskey converted a penalty with the last kick of the opening period to cut the gap to 2-6 to 1-4.

McNamee cut in from the left wing to fist the first score of the second half after six minutes but two minutes later Derrylaughan were right back in contention when Carney smashed the ball to the roof of the net. Sean Byrne and McAliskey exchanged points before the latter closed the gap to two.

In the 44th minute the turning point in the contest arrived when Aghyaran keeper Benny Gallen, who likes to come out the field, was caught out and Patrick Quinn played the ball long to Paul Donnelly who palmed it to an empty net. McAliskey, hit a trio of points with Liam Gervin on target from distance as Derrylaughan turned the screw. McHugh stopped the rot for Aghyaran from a placed ball but two outstanding efforts in as many minutes from substitute Ciaran Gervin sealed victory on a 3-13 to 2-10 scoreline.
