Clogher are through to the Donnelly Vauxhall Junior championship final after an impressibe display saw them overcome Clann na Gael 3-14 to 0-7 at Healy Park on Friday night. Clann na Gael were the better side early on and they led 0-4 to 0-2 with a dozen minutes played thank to points from Cathal McGill, Gareth McDermott and Stephen O’Neill, the latter’s an outstanding effort from out on the left wing. As was the case in their quarter final though Clogher hit a purple patch either side of half time.
Marc McConnell, Ryan McCaughey, Marc Bogue and Sean McCaffrey were all on target as they hit four points without reply to lead 0-7 to 0-5 at the break. The second half was less than sixty seconds old when Fergal McKenna found the net and Clogher never looked back. McCaughey tagged on a point and in the sixth minute a superb run from McConnell finished with a second major. O’Neill got a point for Clann na Gael but it was all Clogher with McCaughey and McKenna both adding a brace of points with the latter also getting a second goal. A disappointing evening for Clann na Gael ended when McDermott was sent off five minutes from time.
