Aghyaran are through to the last four of the Donnelly Vauxhall Intermediate championship after they recovered from a poor start to beat Eskra 1-14 to 2-6 at Healy Park on Friday night.

The Emmetts dominated the opening quarter and that was reflected on the scoreboard as they established a 2-3 to 0-1 advantage with Conor O’Hagan and Cormac Arkinson getting the goals. Aghyaran though gradually began to come into the game and they landed seven unanswered points to only trail by the minimum margin at the break, Ronan McHugh, Michael Anderson and corner back Tommy Dolan on target.

A superb effort with the outside of his boot from McHugh levelled matters on the restart before a Peter Hughes free edged Eskra back in front. O’Hagan then put them two clear in the 37th minute but they were to score just once more in the remainder of the contest and that came in injury time. Keeper Benny Gallen hit a couple of points while McHugh scored a penalty on his way to a personal tally of 1-5 as they deservedly advanced.
