On Saturday Strabane Sigersons hosted the 30th Under 12 Peter Duffy Memorial Tournament with teams travelling from Aghyaran, Glenelly, Doire Trasna, Castlefin, Fintona, Urney and Drumragh.
The teams played in a round robin league section where the top four teams progressed to contest the shield and cup finals. After some thrilling contests, we emerged with Fintona v Castlefin in the shield final and Strabane v Glenelly in the cup final.
Both games served up a treat for the many supporters from the various clubs. Fintona who were last year’s shield winners once again claimed the prize beating Castlefin who were last year’s cup champions.
The Sigerson lads who were up against the Plumbridge men started off in great style and were determined to claim back the cup after a break of two years since last being crowned champions. A very good performance from all the squad members led the lads to the victory they fully deserved, much to the delight of the large home support.
A massive thank you was extended to all the clubs that attended the tournament by club Chairman Liam Sweeney and a very proud Mrs Duffy once again thanked the Sigersons club for the running of Peter’s Tournament. Thanks were also extended to Lisnafin, Ardnalee and Trust CCDA who kindly sponsored the prizes.
Many thanks also to the referees, tea ladies and those that prepared the pitches. Thanks were also extended to tournament organiser Dean Molloy who managed everything so well and made sure Peter’s memory survives within Sigersons.
A get well soon message and speedy recovery was also sent to Aghyaran player Darren McMenamin who unfortunately sustained an injury.
