Croke Park is the place to be on Sunday afternoon when a sell out crowd will watch three in a row chasing Dublin lock horns with Ulster kingpins Tyrone.
It’s a game that the entire country will be looking forward to with anticipation since both eased into the last four a few weeks. Mayo await the winners in the decider following their superb replay win over Kerry so the men from the West will either get a chance of revenge for defeat in the final last year or Tyrone will have an opportunity to avenge their narrow defeat at the quarter final stage in 2016.
This will be a seventh ever meeting in championship football between the two with Dublin winning four [1984, 1995, 2010, 2011], Tyrone winning two [2005, 2008] while there has been one draw in 2005. While Tyrone racked up big winning margins on their way to retaining the Anglo Celt Cup it’s fair to say that Dublin haven’t been tested in Leinster for a number of years.
After beating Kildare in the Leinster decider they easily accounted for Monaghan at the quarter final stage and the bookies have them as warm favourites. It’s easy to see why that is the case as they have won the Sam Maguire four times in the last six years. They have a squad with a wealth of experience and talent with a number of players on the bench who would get on any other side in the country.
Tyrone though will relish the underdogs tag and they will go into the game confident that they can upset the odds. It’s a game that Mickey Harte and his charges have been looking forward to now for a few years and they know within the group that they can win the game. Both sides will have met nothing like the opponents they are due to face this Sunday afternoon and it is sure to be an intriguing tactical battle between managers Mickey Harte and Jim Gavin as much as anything else.
