The North Tyrone championship clash between Owen Roes and Glenelly at Strabane on Sunday was expected to be a close and hotly contested derby. However such was the gulf between the teams that Owen Roes ran out comfortable seventeen point winners as the game lacked the intensity and commitment associated with such fixtures.
Owen Roes took a while to settle and failed to capitalise on three fine early goal scoring chances. throughout the first half Glenelly were being stretched by the movement of the Owen Roes forwards and the quality of ball being played into them but a Seamus Harkin point from play after twenty minutes of the opening period left just two points between the teams 0-4 to 0-2 in favour of Owen Roes.
However in the closing six minutes of the half the Leckpatrick outfit tagged on another five points with Mc Shane (3) leading the way to reach the break 0-9 to 0-2 ahead. They continued their fine form after the break as Brendan Boggs, Ryan Mc Aleer and Sean Dooher dominated play and provided a steady supply of ball to the forwards. Gerard Devine, Ryan Devine and Mc Shane landed points while Mc Shane and Ryan Mc Aleer also finished excellent team moves to the net to ease Owen Roes through to the quarter finals.
Final score: Owen Roes 2-17, Glenelly 0-6
