St.Colman’s Newry justified their favourites tag at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh on Thursday night to get the better of St.Ronan’s Lurgan and qualify for the Danske Bank MacRory Cup final.
There was little between the sides in the opening quarter with man of the match Rian O’Neill, Aaron Gribben, Tiernan Kelly and Adam Loughran among the points for their respective sides. The rest of the half though belonged to the winners as they restricted their opponents to a single point. The superb O’Neill kicked two from play and converted another three frees as St.Colman’s turned around 0-9 to 0-4 in front.
St.Ronan’s closed the gap on the restart but they then had Kevin McAlinden sent off and there was no way back. Cian McConville, Conor O’Neill and Eoghan Byrne all scored to send them through to the St.Patrick’s Day decider.
