Ulster Ladies senior club championship

Bredagh 2-7

St Macartan’s 3-14

Three second half goals eased Tyrone senior champions St Macartans through to the Ulster club semi-final at the expense of Bredagh at Donwpatrick. For long periods through the tie played in perfect conditions it had been score for score with The Macs leading 0-8 to 0-5 at the break as a flurry of late first half scores pulled them clear.

Claire Timoney who had top scored for the Belfast outfit fired over a fine point just after the restart to offer them real hope before Lynda Donnelly, reverting back to a forward role after playing the opening half as an effective sweeper rattled in a fine goal. Antrim star Timoney responded well with a goal for Bredagh but the Macartans upped the intensity and opened up the Down side time and time again. That level of pressure was hard to live with. Meave Deery made a couple of fine saves to deny the Donnelly’s and Shauna McGirr

Cathy Donnelly on the counter and top scorer Joline Donnelly added further goals as St Macartan’s finished strong with a further 0-4 emphasising the Tyrone side’s dominance and quality. Orla Fox latched on a late consolation goal for Bredagh.

This was a determined display from the Tyrone Champions with Maura Mc Menamin, Lynda Donnelly, Cathy Donnely, top scorer Joline Donnelly and Slaine McCarroll all hugely impressive for the winners.

Ulster ladies intermediate club championship

Ardboe 1-8

Kinawley 2-10

Ardboe suffered a dramatic second half collapse as they lost by five points at home to Kinawley. The Tyrone champions bossed the first half with the breeze and looked comfortable on the ball as they created a raft of chances.  Niamh Teague and Rebekah Forbes were among the points before the Fermanagh side rallied and after trailing 5-1 levelled matters on twenty four minutes Joanne Doonan and Roisin O’Rielly among the points. Credit to the Rossa’s they came back with Forbes drilling home a goal to send her side in leading 1-7 to 0-5 at the break.

Remarkably the hosts only managed one more point in the encounter as O’Rielly’s second half goal once again levelled the tie. Alannah Maher and Shauna Melanaphy landed points for the visitors before corner forward Melanaphy found the net to give them that five point advantage. Teague did manage to latch on a free but they were a beaten docket as Kinawley held firm at the back. Ardboe failed to break them down and it was a day to forget for Louise Daly’s side.
