Rock displayed all their quality and experience to see off the threat of a disappointing Tattyreagh side in Sunday’s Junior Championship final on a 1-9 to 1-6 score-line.
James Darcy opened the scoring as Tattyreagh settled quickly. However two Aidan Mc Garrity points soon had Rock in front before the winners were rocked back on their heels when wing back Niall Mc Williams put through his own goal.
At this stage it was the men in red and black who would have been most pleased as a brace of points from Collie Harkin helped his team into a 1-3 to 0-4 lead with five minutes of the first half remaining. Rock finished the first half strongly and points from Mc Garrity and Conor Mc Creesh sent the teams in tied at the break.
Rock introduced veteran Ciaran Gourley for the second half and his presence in and around the middle third helped turn the game very much in their favour. Collie Harkin and Mc Garrity swopped scores before the Rock man finished a fine move to the net to put his team three in front. The team in green and black remained steadfast and determined as Tatttyreagh’s play became increasingly erratic.
The Tatts finished the game with thirteen players as the tackles became more and more frantic. Johnny Harkin added a pair of points for the Tatts but Conor Mc Creesh and Aidan Mc Garrity supplied scores to ensure the cup went home with the men from Rock in this their centenary year.
Final score: rock 1-9, Tattyreagh 1-6.
