Coalisland eased into the semi finals of the Donnelly Vauxhall senior championship when they defeated Kildress 4-17 to 1-5 at Edendork on Saturday evening.

The Fianna had the wind at their backs and they began like they meant business with Stephen McNally fisting the ball over the bar with only twelve seconds gone on the clock. Brian Toner, Dermot Thornton and Padraig Hampsey all tagged on points before Thornton smashed in a brilliant goal. Martin Grimes opened the Wolfe Tones’ account in the 16th minute and Niall Quinn added another fine score but efforts from Toner, Thornton and Cathaoir Quinn left Coalisland with a commanding 1-9 to 0-2 interval lead.

Kildress needed a good start to the second half but the opposite happened with McNally finding the net in the second minute. Two minutes later the same player scored another goal as Coalisland went up through the gears. Quinn converted a Kildress penalty but it was only a consolation score.  Thornton got his second major on his way to a personal haul of 2-5 while McNally finished with 2-3 to his name and midfielder Hampsey weighed in with a trio of points. Quinn top scored for Kildress with 1-2 while Des Treacy and Frank McGurk got a point each.
