Coalisland Fianna lifted the Pat Fahy Junior Championship title at Killyclogher on Saturday after a real ding dong battle with Catlederg.
Mind you the Derg will be wondering just how they managed to lose this one after a very impressive second half showing. The border side came back from five down at one stage in the first half to lead by four but lost out to a late Coalisland goal when they looked set for the win.
Castlederg began well and led after Laura Mc Sorley opened the scoring inside the first minute. However Coalisland settled to their task and wind assisted built up a 1-3 to 0-1 lead after twelve minutes with Niamh Mc Kernan, Chloe Corr and Nicole Murphy to the fore.
Nicole Murphy’s sixth minute goal put the Fianna in front and with Emma Cummings and Caoimhe Quinn showing well for the ball they reached the break leading 1-4 to 0-5. Castlederg had gained considerable possession in the first half but struggled for scores and were very reliant on Shannon Lynch, Sophie Ramsey, sub Roisin Devlin and Laura Mc Sorley for scores.
The Derg weathered a second half storm in the opening ten minutes but Coalisland just could not score. Laura Mc Sorley bagged a goal for her team and Leah and Shannon Lynch added points as they hit 1-3 without reply to move 1-8 to 1-5 in front. Chloe Corr landed a fine point to give Coalisland hope and but as the game entered the closing minutes Castlederg still led and looked set for the win.
Coalisland threw on sub Maura Mc Clure and she began to make her presence felt. Her perseverance helped Coalisland narrow the gap to two before she set up Una Robinson for the match winning goal as the Fianna won it 2-7 to 1-9.
