Moortown produced a superb second half comeback on Saturday against Dungannon to defeat the Clarkes and make it through to the quarter finals of the Intermediate championship.

Dungannon bossed the first half with Dalaigh Jones, Paddy Quinn, Paidi Mc Nulty, Matthew Walsh and Kiefer Morgan very much to the fore as The Clarkes established a 0-8 to 0-3 lead just before the half time whistle sounded.

Conan and Brian Mc Lernon helped keep the Loughshore side in it and they had further cause for hope when Conor Heron converted the final chance of the opening period to leave the half time score 0-8 to 0-4 in favour of Dungannon.

Moortown needed a big start to the second half and Tony Quinn, Paudraig O’Hagan and Ryan Kelly won the vital possession that swung the game in their favour. Three quick-fire points from Mc Lernon (2) and Karl Hagan reduced the gap to a single point.

Just when it seemed Moortown were back in it Clarkes full forward Patrick Quinn intercepted a short kick out which he carried through and fired to the net. Suddenly Dungannon were four clear again and although Conor Heron reduced the gap to three a minute later, Kiefer Morgan took a lovely score to keep the Clarkes in pole position.

Moortown however refused to panic and kept plugging away. Midfielder Stephen Spiers and Karl Hagan hit points to narrow the gap to a single score as the game entered the closing ten minutes.

The previously very assured Dungannon defence were looking nervous as Moortown continued to push forward at every opportunity. Conan Mc Lernon scored a fine point before the same player worked a fine free kick routine to give Daniel Kelly the chance to close the gap further. The half back slotted the ball between the posts and it was now a one point game.

Corner forward Ryan Kelly levelled the scores as the clock headed towards sixty minutes. Dungannon looked out on their feet and Moortown took advantage of a fine bit of play from Conor Heron to seal the win with a well taken point by full forward Karl Hagan.

Final score: Moortown 0-14, Dungannon 1-10.
