The Tyrone ladies season of woes continued at the weekend as once again they suffered another heavy loss. There were few if any positives to take out of this Dublin mauling but the fact that several new players made their first appearances while the learning curve continued for the team.
The gulf in class and quality last Sunday at Clanabogan Park was evident as Tyrone managed just one point in sixty odd minutes while the Dubs scoring at will from the off. Carla Rowe scored 1-4 with her goal coming from the penalty spot. Nicole Owens and Neamh McEvoy were the other goal scorers as the visitors dominated all over the park.
Tyrone could not live with the pace, quality and finishing of Gregory McGonigle’s side as they controlled the tie, opening the scoring within a minute through midfielder Noelle Healy adding to that with McEvoy drilling the ball past Shannon Lynch after good build up play from Carla Rowe.
Despite having the odd flurry of possession up front Tyrone could not carve out an opening of note. Cara McCrossan, Siobhan Sheerin and Neamh O’Neill got little change from a solid Dublin defence marshalled superbly by Mauireann Ni Scanaill.
Dublin drove relentlessly at Tyrone and by half time led 2-9 to no score. Carla Rowe and Siobhan Woods maintained a steady supply of possession to their forwards especially Olivia Leonard who hit a brace before the second goal came when Rowe was tugged back. The half forward herself picked herself up and scored the penalty to ease Dublin into a 2-6 lead.
Gerry Moane’s side were never in contention and things didn’t improve in the second period as Dublin continued where they had left off although credit to Tyrone they upped their work rate while the Dubs emptied the bench.
Nicole Owens lashed in the third goal five minutes after the restart having been set up by influential McEvoy as the Dubs turned the screw. Tyrone’s only score came from Emma Hegarty on six minutes but Dublin kept the scoreboard ticking over. Healy, Rowe, Hudson and Conroy were all among the points as Tyrone’s misery continued.
Gerry Moane made a raft of changes too and the Tyrone boss took some positives despite the heavy loss that now all but opens the trap door to the second tier. The Tyrone manager was pleased with the workrate shown although he agreed that with the quality they have the Dubs are some distance ahead.
Tyrone rarely threatened the Dublin rearguard while the Red Hands were put to the pin of their collars time and again, almost constantly under pressure. It gets no easier for Tyrone who head to Kerry next time out.
