Dean Maguirc Carrickmore made history at Healy Park on Monday afternoon when they won the Tyrone U16 Post Primary Schools title for the first time in what is ironically the last year of the competition.
Holy Cross Strabane had a strong wind at their backs in the first half and they completely dominated with Paul Farrell, Odhran McCay, Ruairi Gormley and Danny Doherty getting points and Niall McGinley finding the net to leave them 1-6 to 0-1 in front. Crucially though the winners got a late goal through Kyle Devlin to trim the deficit to five.
Cathaoir Gallagher kicked the first four points of the second half and after Ruairi Slane had levelled matters Gallagher gave the Dean a lead that they were never to lose. The winners lost Gallagher to a second booking in the final minute while McGinley closed the gap to the minimum but the Dean had the final say through Thomas McCallan as it finished 1-10 to 1-8.
