Many thought that the meeting was only going to be a formality but it now appears that Mickey Harte must undergo an interview before he will be considered for the Tyrone senior football post in 2016.
In a report carried by Highland Radio, County chairperson Roisin Jordan confirmed on Friday night that “We’ll look at the managers (senior and U21), and do interviews, and they’ll be ratified through the County Committee”.
Interviews are to be held for the senior and U21 posts, while clubs have been asked to nominate candidates for the position of minor football manager, following Mickey Donnelly’s decision to step down after five years.
Mrs Jordan rejected speculation that Harte is to be handed a one year term, stressing that no decisions have been made. “No decision has been made on anything. We hope to meet them all within the next fortnight or so.
“All the managers now, their terms are finished, so now we have to sit down with all the managers and talk it through next year. That’s what we’re doing now.”
All-Ireland U21 winning manager Feargal Logan and his backroom team of Brian Dooher and Peter Canavan are also to meet with the county executive, and it’s understood they are willing to resume their duties.
Meanwhile, senior hurling manager Mattie Lennon is undecided about whether he wishes to remain in the job for a third season.
The Armagh native has guided Tyrone to successive promotions and a first ever Nicky Rackard Cup title.
“Mattie said, give him a week or so and he would come back to me,” said Jordan.
