Aghaloo built on their fine championship win last weekend with a three point win over Castlederg on Sunday. Things have gone somewhat downhill for the Derg following three consecutive defeats that have seen them lose top place in the table and exit the championship. The Derg led 0-10 to 0-5 at the break but were unable to hold on to the lead and Aghaloo inspired by Niall Mc Elroy’s 0-6 finished strongly to win 0-17 to 0-14. Stevie Donnelly and Ruairi Mc Glone bagged a brace of points each while Tiernan Donnelly landed 0-4 for the winners. Mark Corry (0-2), Stefain Gallen (0-2) Sean Harper (0-5) and Conor Mc Callion (0-3) and Paddy Lynch (0-2) were on target for the Derg.
Seamus Harkin and his Glenelly team mates put last week’s championship exit behind them as they got the better of Clogher in a high scoring game on Sunday afternoon. Harkin bagged 3-4 while Ronan O’Kane landed five points for the winners as they defeated Clogher 4-13 to 1-16. Ciaran Shields was the outstanding player and main scoring threat for Clogher throughout.
Owen Roes returned to their Glenmornan home for the first time in a number of months but could only manage a draw against an improving Drumragh side. The home team led by four at the break and were even two in front as the game entered injury time. However they had to rely on a late free to salvage a draw after Drumragh snatched a goal very late in the game. Stephen Harper (1-1) and Andy Devine (0-4) top scored for Owen Roes with Seamy Dooher (1-0) also on target. Following last weekend’s championship win Drumragh are growing in confidence. Shane Cleary (1-3), Martin Taggart (0-4), Gareth Haughey (0-2), Gavin Quinn (0-2), Gareth Starrs (0-2), Barry Fitzgerald (0-1) and Tommy Mullan (0-1) were among the scorers for the Sarsfields.
Championship hotshots Brackaville and Tattyreagh played out an exciting 2-16 apiece draw at Brackaville on Sunday afternoon in an enthralling game where a draw was certainly a fair result. However while the two sides will probably be happy with a point each they both will know they had chances late in the game to snatch victory with the home side missing three glorious late, late opportunities while the Tatts were off target from a twenty yard free. In a game laced with quality scores Martin Gervin struck four fine forty fives, Che O’Donnell scored 2-3 and Paddy Gervin bagged 0-5 while Matthew Campbell landed the equalising score for the Owen Roes. Tattyreagh youngsters Johnny Harkin (0-6), Eoghan Murray (1-2), and James Darcy (1-1) were central to their team’s display and result.
Killyman defeated Errigal Thirds by two points in a game where a Damien Mc Nulty goal line clearance right at the end secured victory for his team. Gerard Hughes had bagged a goal in the first half as Killyman reached the break leading 1-3 to 0-3. Errigal were dominant for long periods of the second half and led late in the game. However a couple of well struck 45s from Enda Mc Gahan put Killyman ahead again before Mc Nulty’s defensive heroics ensured Killyman took the points.
Brocagh lost at home to Drumquin in a game where a goal in each half from the Wolfe Tones ultimately decided the outcome. Brocagh, with scores from Mickey Hughes, Justin Campbell, Glenn Scullion, Owen Canavan and Shay Ryan led 0-9 to 1-5 at the break. Drumquin’s goal in the first half came from Ryan Mc Callion while a second half major from Brendan Gormley ensured the points went to Drumquin on a final score of Brocagh 0-12, Drumquin 2-13.
