As we predicted earlier this evening Croke Park and the CCCC appear to have buckled under pressure from relentless requests from a small number of the Dublin media.

We have just spoken to our source in Croke Park and he confirmed tonight that the CCCC met today following an unprecedented number of phone calls to Croke Park’s Press Office from a small number of high profile Dublin based media.

The news came through this evening that  Tiernan McCann has been handed down an eight week suspension from the CCCC. McCann has now a short time to decide whether or not he will appeal the decision but it seems likely that Tyrone will request a hearing for McCann in the very near future.

With a hearing and probable DRA case to follow this story is certain to run for a considerable amount of time. We did predict that this might happen following our earlier report. Many thanks to our source in Croke Park for keeping us up to date.

Teamtalk can exclusively reveal this evening that the GAA Press Office at Croke Park have received a number of calls in the last 24 hours asking “when the CCCC are going to take action on Tiernan McCann”. Our Croke Park based source this afternoon confirmed to Teamtalk that a number of high profile Dublin based journalists have been in contact with the Press Office seeking reasons why the CCCC are not moving to ban McCann.

In these cases the CCCC rely heavily on the referee’s report however because of the recent furore drummed up by some elements of the media it appears that the CCCC might just be pressurised into action. If any such action were to be taken by the CCCC it would call into question who exactly is calling the shots when it comes to player suspensions at the highest level.
