Coalisland enjoyed back to back derby victories on consecutive Sundays with a 0-15 to 0-7 win over near neighbours Dungannon Clarkes. The Fianna were on top from early on with former county man Patrick Mc Neice in outstanding form for the winners. Sean Corr (2), Brian Toner (3) and Mc Neice (4) provided Coalisland’s main scoring threat while Plukett Kane also came off the bench to play a key role in his side’s win. Kiefer Morgan hit a couple of points for the Clarkes before being forced off with a hamstring injury while Lorcan Mallon and Patrick Molloy were also on target.
Carrickmore produced the perfect response to last weekend’s tame championship exit at the hands of Omagh St Endas with a 2-16 to 2-10 defeat of Dromore. Played in ideal conditions the winners recovered from a poor start that saw them fall 1-4 to 0-2 behind fifteen minutes into the first half after a Conor O’Neill goal for Dromore. however Carmen showed considerable determination to stay in the game and buoyed by a Conor Gormley goal the men in green and gold reached the break 1-10 to 1-6 ahead with Martin Penrose and Mark Donnelly also on target.
Penrose gave Carrickmore the perfect start to the second half with a goal in the second minute and although Eoin Mc Cusker found the net for Dromore to reduce the gap to three points, the men in blue failed to build on that score. Ruairi Loughran added a couple of late scores for Carrickmore as they deservedly took the spoils on a final score of 2-16 to 2-10.
Trillick continued with their recent fine run of form with a comprehensive ten point win over Greencastle at Donnelly Park on Sunday afternoon. The home side were on top from early on with ace marksman Lee Brennan once again showing the way. The Reds were four clear at the break leading 0-9 to 0-5. Brennan landed three first half points while Emmett Mc Fadden, Daniel Mc Donnell and Mattie Donnelly were also on target. Barry Mc Garvey and Cahir Mc Cullagh (5) delivered all the Greencastle scores in an opening thirty minutes where they were made work very hard to create chances.
Trillick continued to dominate after the break and moved 0-13 to 0-6 ahead midway through the second half with their scores coming from Ritchie Donnelly, Mattie Donnelly, Lee Brennan and Frank Mc Caughey. The home side added four further scores in the closing ten minutes to seal the win with Greencastle’s Chrissy Gillen on target for Barry Tracey’s side.
