It was a poignant weekend for the Castlederg club at Marius Mc Hugh Park as the club played its first game since the passing of Jo Lynch. A minute’s silence was held in her memory but it was the performance of the team on the day that did her memory proud as they defeated neighbours and rivals Newtownstewart with a man of the match display from Jo’s nephew Mark Corry.

Newtown began the game with the wind in their back opening up a two point lead by the twenty fifth minute. However with Ryan Mayse and sub Kevin Gallagher in form they managed to add three further points during the closing few minutes to reach the break 0-7 to 0-2 ahead. After the break Castlederg raised their game with Aiden Lynch, Ronan Devine, Chris Mc Hugh and Mark Corry starring. Corry in particular was outstanding hitting nine points for the Derg to seal the win and take the points.

Owen Roes Vs Brackaville

Meanwhile in another North Tyrone derby high flying Owen Roes got the better of their local rivals Clann na nGael by a single point to remain joint leaders with the Derg. With Brendan Boggs and Cathal Mc Shane finding the target in the early exchanges this looked like being a very close game. The home side produced some fine football and reached the break 0-7 to 0-5 ahead. A brace of scores immediately after the break then pushed Clann na nGael 0-9 to 0-5 as they pushed for the win. However Owen Roes refused to throw in the towel and Cathal Mc Shane kick started the comeback with a fine point before a rebound goal from the boot of Ryan Devine levelled things.

Showing considerable fortitude however Clan na Gael once again moved ahead.

With time running out and a point between the sides Owen Roes were awarded a free that was converted by Mc Shane. Just when it seemed both teams were happy enough to settle for a draw the visitors won another free that was again converted by Cathal Mc Shane to seal a one point victory for Owen Roes. Final score- Clann na nGael 0-10, Owen Roes 1-08.
