Team Captain Mark McCullagh proved to be the Loughmacrory hero when he landed a superb winning point to beat prematch favourites Kildress in a keenly contested Intermediate championship first round tie at Greencastle.
It took fourteen minutes for the opening score to come and it was McCullagh who got it. Kildress lost Martin Grimes to a red card before Pauraic Meenagh doubled Loughmacrory’s lead with a fisted point. Frank McGurk and Des Treacy brought the Wolfe Tones level before that man McCullagh left it 0-3 to 0-2 at the break, the St.Teresas down to fourteen men as well after Joey Kelly was red carded.
Kildress had the better of things on the restart and points from McGurk, Philip Lennon and Eoin Brannigan saw them turn things around to lead. In the fifth minute Loughmacrory midfielder Declan Grimes scored a goal before Paul Treacy levelled matters. McCullagh and Enda McAleer swapped points and with the game destined for a replay the former won the day for his side.
