Tyrone Minors got their new season off to a winning start on Monday evening at Garvaghey but were made fight all the way by a determined and well organised Antrim team.

Mickey Donnelly’s side produced a dominant opening thirty minutes with corner forward Emmett Mc Nabb looking sharp in front of goals while wing back Conor Shiels also managed to find the target. Tyrone however were not having it all their own way with Odhran Eastwood, Conor Small and Conor Mc Kenna looking lively in the Antrim forward line. Indeed it took a marvellous block from Patrick Mackle to deny Antrim a certain goal just before the break as Tyrone reached the short whistle 0-8 to 0-1 ahead.

Both sides made changes after the break and the continuity of the game suffered. Antrim created the better chances in the second half but Tyrone with Christopher Mc Guigan, James Darcy and Eoghan Murray in good form were able to keep them at arm’s length. The visitors finished the game with a goal from Conor Small but it was a case of too little too late.

Next up for Tyrone is a trip to Celtic Park Derry on Saturday.

Tyrone scores: Emmett Mc Nabb 0-4, Conor Shiels 0-2, Tiernan Corr, Andrew Mc Grath, Jody Mc Glone, Eoghan Murry, Michael Corless and Christopher Mc Guigan 0-1 each.
