Tyrone senior hurlers will be disappointed to have drawn their opening Division 3A league game at Healy Park this afternoon. The current Nicky Rackard Cup champions had a five point interval lead but let that slip in the second period to come out with just a point from the game.

Monaghan to their credit did come back into the game and were 1-4 to 0-6 ahead midway through the opening half thanks to points from Ronan Meegan, Stephen Lambe and a Tony Forde goal. The visitors may well have had a second goal had goalkeeper Hugh Byrne not clipped a penalty over the bar. Tyrone finished the half much the stronger side though with two Aidan Kelly points added to by an excellent Damian Casey goal and a point. Half time Tyrone 1-10 Monaghan 1-5
