Carrickmore warmed up for next weekend’s county final with a 0-15 to 2-6 home win over a game Strabane side on Saturday afternoon. A low scoring first half saw wind assisted Carrickmore move 0-5 to 0-1 ahead after sixteen minutes with points from Finbar Magill, Paul Mc Aleer and Martin Penrose. However Strabane brought themselves right back into the game on twenty minutes when a strong run and finish from wing back Aaron Mc Laughlin narrowed the gap to a single point as the teams reached the half time whistle with Carrickmore leading 0-5 to 1-1.

Warner Mullen and Conor Gormley exchanged points early in the second half as Strabane sought to take control of the game. The Sigersons hit three points in a row from Ryan O’Kane, Warner Mullen and JP Gallagher to lead by two twelve minutes into the second half. Just when it seemed possible that the north Tyrone side might hang on for a win up stepped club captain Gormley to drive his team to victory. Carrickmore showed all their class and experience to hit eight unanswered points during that closing fifteen minutes with sub Daire Fox accounting for four of those points as the home side recorded a deserved three point win. Indeed it could have been even more emphatic as with sixty three minutes on the clock Carrickmore led 0-15 to 1-6 before Sigersons’ forward Brian Breslin found the net right at the death to leave three between them.
