Tonight’s All County League Division One tie between Dromore and Errigal Ciaran creates a small piece of history as these two heavyweights of Tyrone club football compete for the league points. The game will be the first senior league fixture played under lights at the Gardrum Park venue and is sure to attract a large crowd.
Football fans all over the country are well used to seeing league and championship matches played under lights at a host of venues but this one is a first for Dromore. The St. Dympnas club has been very busy improving and adding to their facilities and tonight will be a chance for them to show their playing fields in a “positive light”.
Dromore are presently sitting joint top of the table and will be keen to ensure that they maintain their consistent league form. They are on a long unbeaten league run having not lost a game since the opening day of the season when they were beaten by Clonoe. Errigal are in the top four but with only a few league games remaining know that a win tonight would improve their chances of a play-off position and put four points between them and fifth placed Ardboe.
Senior league football played on a Monday night under lights is something of a new departure for these clubs and with no competing fixtures there should be a sizeable crowd in attendance. For those interested in going along to see the match it throws in at 8:00pm.
